Websites to create instant exercises - Situs-situs Internet untuk membuat "Latihan Instan"

There are websites on the Internet that are very useful for teachers. These sites simply produce worksheets for teachers at a click of a button. They save times, they are simple to use and free.

This tool basically produces a timeline with dates and events. It is great for pairwork – where one student has a full one and the other has an empty one. Student A explains dates and what happened, student B fills in the timeline and checks the details of what happened in what order. This can also be used in the present, by writing a timeline describing a typical day.

This worksheet generator from discoveryschool.com can be used in all sorts of ways. Students can have exercises on matching the beginning and ending of a sentence, a question and the answer, word and its definition, an adjective and its opposite, or even word and its translation for lower level class, etc. We can simply write in the word or sentence then put a comma, then add the sentence or word you want to pair it with.

This generator scrambles up the words by simply writing in the words you want scrambled and the computer does the rest. Click the button and the word orders will be mixed up and laid out in a worksheet. To make it easier for students, the first letter can be typed with capital so that the students know the first letter of the word. It’s ideal for homework or revising vocabulary and spelling.

This worksheet generator requires the students to order the events of a story or a series of things or events like getting up in the morning, getting dressed, etc. You simply write the story of series of events line by line, and then click on the button and the story is scrambled for you into a nice worksheet. It’s also good for story telling.

Computers are great for making crosswords. They can be used for pairwork activities by giving one student half a complete crossword, and the other half of the words. They then have to ask the other students about the words they don’t know.
There are all sorts of places where you can get crosswords made. Here, the solutions of the crosswords are available and can be printed out.

Using websites on the Internet for language teaching/learning

Most people have some experience with visiting websites, and the World Wide Web constitutes an incredible resource to use with your students as well as for students to use independently. Probably the most obvious web-based resources for teaching are those websites devoted to teaching and learning Indonesian. These websites have been created either by language schools or dedicated individuals. Some sites charge for access, most don’t. The sites themselves often include some explanation about specific skills as well as interactive exercises, where students, for example, choose the correct multiple-choice answer and then check their answers by clicking on a button to receive instant feedback.

Introduction-pengantar

Introduction

We live in the age of the computer, and there are growing demands on almost everyone, including teachers, to become technologically literate. You may already use computer programs to create materials for students and now you wish to incorporate information technology into your teaching. Maybe as teachers, you would like to learn how to use the Internet as teaching tool.

Basically, the Internet is a network of people and information, linked together by telephone lines which are connected to computers. (Teeler, 2000 ). The internet can empower you as a teacher and improve your teaching for the following reasons :
1. It provides access to up-to-date materials
2. It makes transferring straightforward information very simple.
3. It can help you create exercises and materials that are easily reusable.
4. It allows students to study at their own pace.
5. It enables people living far apart to come together and form communities.
6. It can be motivating and fun.

According to teachers’ comments – at conferences, in papers and on the Internet mailing lists dedicated to ELT- they seem to use the Internet for just about everything: development, updating language skills, finding materials, learning about computer applications, keeping in touch with friends and colleagues, teaching, working on class project and activities, and just having fun. In this session, we will talk about how to use the Internet for your teaching, which will be divided into two sections: Using websites for language teaching and using websites for creating teaching materials.
